Sunshine Coast Basketball Association's newest addition to the team, Calia Hanks, has been with us for only two months, yet the difference she has made to our program is huge.
Appointing the right person for the role of Referee Development Manager was one of the key priorities for the board after our first trial year as a merged association.
SCBA vice-president Dan Murphy was given the task of finding a suitable candidate to take on the challenge of bringing all three clubs together and developing our program to new heights.
Brisbane-born Calia started with us in May this year. She has brought a real sense of enthusiasm to make our program one of the best.
She has brought our three clubs' referee panels together, and has gone on to achieve many other things.
She has encouraged the addition of a number of Green Shirt referees and has driven the design for a new uniform to be used for all SCBA competitions.
She has also helped many of our existing referees to be graded and organised.
Apart from that, she has run several courses, coordinated the U11 Championships, and has taken on board the coordination of school programs in our stadiums to mentor our grassroots referees.
In addition, she has begun sourcing sponsorship and fundraising for the program.
She is also the Referees Coordinator for SCBA's BQJBC season, which kicks off in September with grading. Let's not forget that she also coordinates the referees for all three club competitions.
To say we are very happy to have Calia on our team is a big understatement. The board and all our referees would like to acknowledge the great work she has done so far.
